Thread a bulb from the string of lights through each hole from the back of the sign.
Diy marquee letter lights.
Any help would be appreciated.
Does that mean you need 2 outlets to light up the whole sign.
I m about to start this marquee project and was wondering if you could tell me how you connected the lights.
We had 25 lights and 25 holes so we made sure that a light was used in each one.
The globe lights in your link say that you should only connect 3 strings at a time which leaves one letter not connected to the rest.
Tape i used packaging tape depending on how many letters you use and how big your letters are you may need one two or even three sets of globe string lights.
The first step to creating this lighted marquee letter was to find a letter that was hollow in the back.
A wooden letter of your choice available at most craft stores 1 2 strings of lights with bulb covers that are removable mine had led bulbs with round plastic covers popped off and.
Drill holes for the lights.
I started with the l then the g then finished with the w.
My bliss diy marquee letters used two sets exactly.
If you wanted you could put the lights on the front of the letter which would put the lights completely outside of the letter frame.
A drill with a bit barely larger than the diameter of your light sockets duct tape paint of choice.
Place a light bulb in each hole and screw on the backing connecting the letters as you go.
Measure the diameter of the light sockets mine with the clip needed a 7 8 diameter hole.
Determine where you want each light to go on your letters and draw a small dot for each bulb.
Pull off the back piece and remove any cardboard pieces from inside the letters.
Where you have to backtrack.
Lights should fit snuggly but a bit of hot glue will make sure they stay in place if needed.
Tuck the wires inside the cardboard and use the clips on the lights to secure the wires if necessary.
Spray paint the letters and let them dry completely.
This meant we had to do a little back tracking on the legs of the letters.
Leave only the length needed to plug the sign in.
We actually put the lights in the back of the letter since we liked that look better.
Using an x acto knife carefully start cutting out one side of each letter.
I added trim around the plywood letters to give them a marquee look.
Using cardboard step 1.
The letters can be used like this if you don t want to add the trim around the edges.
I used a drill and 7 8 spade bit to drill the holes.
Use an x acto knife to cut along the seam of the back sideof each letter.
Tuck the remaining string behind the letter after removing the leftover bulbs.
